The Middle School Division, of the OAEA, represents OAEA members that teach Art at the Middle School level, or are affiliated with Middle School Art Education, through retirement, student teachers, and community members. The Middle School Division also represents Middle School Art Students across the state of Ohio.

Hello OAEA members! I am Sara Stafford, the newly elected Middle School Division Chair!

I graduated from Ohio University in 2000, with a Bachelors of Fine Arts. My focus was in painting, ceramics, and photography. My minor was in Theater.

I graduated from the University of Rio Grande in 2005, with my Masters in Classroom Education.

This is my 16th year as an Art Educator for the Chillicothe City Schools, where I have spent my entire career thus far, where I grew up, and graduated from High School.

This is the 7th year that I have been the District Art Department Coordinator for the Chillicothe City Schools.

When I began my Art Education Career at the Chillicothe City Schools, I was assigned to grades 6,7,8, at Chillicothe Middle School. I promptly became a member of OAEA, and NAEA. My Art Students and I participated in the YPAE and YAM Flag and Graphic Design Exhibit.

My second year at the Chillicothe City Schools, I was assigned to the High School, grades 9,10,11,12. I was an Art Educator at Chillicothe High School for 7 years. During that time I taught Darkroom Photography, Film Making, Painting, Drawing, Sculpture, and Advanced Placement Drawing. I also Co-Chaired the CHS National Art Honor Society. My Art Students and I participated in the Governor's Art Show, Congressional Art Show, and several other Art Shows and Art Competitions, as well as community service activities.

The following year, I volunteered to transfer back to the Middle School, grades 6,7,8. My middle school Art Students and I have continued to participate in the OAEA YPAE and YAM Shows. I established a Junior Art Honor Society, and an Art Club. Both organizations are community service based. We have done community service activities such as: Painting windows with holiday themes for the downtown Holiday Open House, we made stoneware clay ornaments and donated them to the Pumphouse Art Gallery to help them raise money for the building of their new education center, we sponsored an overseas Soldier and sent him care packages, displaying our watercolor paintings at a local restaurant throughout the school year and summer, and face painting at our District Community Night.

I am excited to be more involved with the OAEA! Middle Division Chair Position seems like the perfect way to be more involved! I am looking forward to working with you over the next two years! If you have any questions, or ideas, please contact me.
