Teacher Incentive Grant Awards
This was the second year for the Teacher Incentive Grant Project
funded through the Ohio Art Education Foundation. The Ohio Art
Education
Foundation (OAEF) invites applications for the Teacher Incentive
Program. Application to the Grant Program is open to any Art Educator
who is an active member of OAEA and is currently teaching art at
an Ohio Elementary, Middle or High School.
The 2006 grant recipients are Suzanne Mitolo and Jancy Cossin. A
brief description of their grant projects follows.
Suzanne Mitolo
Centerville Kindergarten Village
Centerville Schools
This project will increase students’ understanding and appreciation
of traditional cultures from Mexico and the Americas. Classroom teachers
will develop lesson plans that integrate the art curriculum. A portfolio
of lessons will be developed using artifacts to bring cultural studies
alive for the students.
Jancy Cossin
Hanby Arts Magnet School
Westerville City Schools
This project will provide a holistic approach to learning. Fifth
grade students will engage in lessons with the art teacher and classroom
teacher to learn how the elements of art apply to sculpting in nature,
photography and how science, the arts and technology are connected.
After the fifth grade student experience this learning process they
will then guide the second grade classes through a similar program.
