CREATIVITY BLOSSOMS IN MARCH
Kristine Gilmer, OAEA Exhibitions Coordinator

In the month of March, the association recognizes National Youth Art
Month. As a part of this observance, OAEA sponsors several shows and
events. Teachers across the state may choose to submit work from students in grades K-8 for selection into the Youth Art Month Exhibit or the Young Peoples Art Exhibit. Works were chosen, exhibits assembled, and on March 2-3 receptions were held to recognize those students whose work appeared in them. Students received certificates and a small gift of art materials and a book. Teachers had the opportunity to submit student entries from grades K-12 into the Flag and Graphic Design Competition. The theme for this year was "Cosmic Creativity". The winners from this contest were recognized at STRS on March 2 at the YAM reception. Students present received gifts and all who participated received a certificate. As an added bonus to this year's events, the State Department of Education requested to participate in the association's exhibits. They will be hanging works from these shows in their facilities to be enjoyed by all those who visit there throughout the summer months.

All work will be returned at the conclusion of the display. All details regarding these or any other pieces submitted for YAM or YPAE are available by contacting Kristine Gilmer by phone at(330) 326-1285 or email to k_gilmer@teacher.com. The inclusion of the ODE into our shows is a wonderful development for the OAEA and our students. Work is currently underway on the Ohio High School Art Exhibition to be held at STRS in October 2002. There are many new and exciting changes going on, all geared to improve the quality of service to our members and their students. As the school year comes to a close I encourage you to visit the display in Columbus and I will look forward to continuing to work with all of you.
