The OAEA is a statewide service organization operated by an executive committee and board of directors, consisting of elected representatives from nine regions and eight divisions. These volunteers serve in a variety of capacities on the local, regional and state levels. Other members represent the Distinguished Fellows, Ohio Art Education Foundation, and Committee Chairs.

OAEA is so Proud of
Jonathan Juravich!

Ohio 2018 Teacher of the Year

Did you know that since the beginning of this award sponsored by the Ohio Education Association there has been only three arts educators who have won? The first one was a music educator and the second one was way back in 1981. We are so proud of Jonathan representing teachers and art educators across the state of Ohio. He is an inspiring leader who has served OAEA as Regional Director for Central Region and is currently our ARTline Editor. What really makes him stand out with such a young career is what he does in his classroom. Inviting a box turtle to help in teaching art along with nature conservation is one of many novel strategies Jonathan Juravich employs at Liberty Tree Elementary School in Powell to get children excited about school. He has also named many tools in his classroom and given them faces and he wears plaid in some way every day!

“Jon Juravich is a one-of-a-kind teacher who inspires young children to see the world in a new light, color or shape,” said Liberty Tree Principal Terri Caton. “His enthusiasm and passion for teaching, as well as the arts, engages young minds and allows them to open themselves up to something new and exciting.”

Ohio Art Educator of the Year!

Randall Robart

Help us honor Randy at the conference on Thursday night!

Executive Director of the Ohio Arts Council Donna Collins writes, “The roles and responsibilities of someone who receives the Ohio Art Educator of the Year award from the Ohio Art Education Association are quite complex. The individual needs to exemplify the profession of teaching—putting students first. The person needs to work hard at teaching and growing the profession—being active in their professional organization. The teacher needs to understand the value of others and the value of self—making art and making time for the important things at work and in life. Mr. Robart is the right person.”
